The Banner Ladies U14 Football Féile team will travel to County Derry this Friday to participate in the 29th Féile Peil na nÓg. Five thousand girls and boys in one hundred and sixty teams will descend upon the Oak Leaf County this weekend as representatives of their club and county. This year sees The Banner Ladies going to Féile for the eighth consecutive year, winning in 2005 and 2006, while Lissycasey will be representing Clare in the boy’s competition.
Last year’s Banner Ladies Féile team remains mostly intact and with an additional year’s development behind them, the experience of Féile Cill Dara 2009 should stand them in good stead. Despite overcoming worthy opposition in two thrilling matches against Ballyna and Sarsfields Newbridge, the girl’s true character manifested itself when they went head to head with eventual finalists Mourneabbey of Cork and only for a series of near misses, the opportunity to progress to the finals eluded them for another year. Now presented with another bite at the cherry, this team will not be found wanting of heart and determination as they endeavour to bring a third Feile trophy home to club and county.
The Banner girls are kindly hosted by North Tyrone ladies football club Clann na Gael who they will meet in their first group game, followed by another O’Neills County team Sperrin Óg and then Connaught side Claregalway. The team that tops the group will progress to the division one semi-final on Saturday afternoon. The fantastic atmosphere and camaraderie that is the Féile Peil na nÓg competition will ensure much fun and enjoyment is had by all. Best of luck to the panel and mentors Paul McKenna, Martina Martin, Sonya Sullivan and JJ O’Dea. (www.bannerladiesfootball.com)
