Clare 0-18         Galway 1-15

Colin Ryan landed a free in the dying seconds to salvage a draw for All-Ireland champions Clare in a cracking contest at Cusack Park.

Galway looked set for victory when Cathal Mannion dispatched a low shot to the net going into the final quarter.

But Clare rallied and substitute Ryan fired over a great point from play a minute from the end before keeping his nerve to steer a free from 65 yards at the death.

Galway enjoyed wind advantage in the opening half but only managed to lead by a point at the interval at 0-9 to 0-8.

Tony Kelly was in superb form for Clare from placed balls and he hit seven frees to keep them in touch, with David Reidy getting Clare’s only point from play in the opening half.

Two early Kelly frees settled the All-Ireland champions before Galway got moving and landed five in succession from Niall Burke (two), Conor Cooney (two) and Johnny Coen.

Clare finished the half with fourteen men when wing-forward Shane Golden, who was booked earlier, was sent off for a foul on Iarla Tannian.

The sides were level five times in the opening half before Cathal Mannion edged the Tribesmen in front on the stroke of half-time.

Kelly hit three points in the opening five minutes of the second-half before Conor Cooney stemmed the flow with another free.

Kelly and Cooney exchanged points before Mannion, who had earlier been denied a penalty, blasted home a goal after a pass from Johnny Coen.

Galway had chances to wrap it up but Clare goalkeeoer Patrick Kelly did well to deny Niall Burke when he deflected the ball over the bar to lead by 1-14 to 0-15 with seven minutes remaining.

Conor McGrath, who hit three good points after being introduced, reduced the deficit but Jonathan Glynn put two between them with two minutes of regular time left.

However, Clare finished strongly and Ryan salvaged a draw with Tannian harshly penalised for delaying a sideline before they were awarded a free and Ryan made no mistake.
