VODAFONE will not be continuing their sponsorship of the All-Ireland senior football championship.
Their three-year agreement ended with Cork’s victory over Down on Sunday and GAA sources last night confirmed that the telecommunications giant will not be signing up to a new deal.
The news was not unexpected to Croke Park chiefs given Vodafone’s high profile move to replace Arnotts as title sponsors of Dublin’s intercounty teams earlier this year.
Vodafone have a lengthy association with the GAA. The company have been sponsors of the All Stars since 1997 but it remained unclear last night if that link will remain in place beyond this year. However GAA chiefs are confident that they will have no lack of interest from companies bidding to join Super Valu and Ulster Bank in sponsoring the senior football championship in 2011 and beyond.
