Clare Internal
1st Year Blitz
A 1st year
blitz involving St Flannans, St Caimins and two of the Munster Council backed 1st
year coaching project schools West Clare Colleges and Rice College took place
on Friday 15th before the schools broke for East Holidays. This gave
opportunity for all schools to give some much valued work to players who will
compete in next years U15 college competitions with each squad playing 3 games.
The West Clare colleges ran out easy winners making good use of their 24 weeks
coaching received to date and also giving teachers/mentors invaluable insight
into possible team positions for next years Munster U15A competition Corn Ui
Mhorain.
Clubs Visits
Club visits
made by the GDA to clubs in West and North Clare regions continued throughout
April with the aim of giving players a change of voice and also coaching the
coaches. The target is up to 3 club visits each week.
Croke Park U12 Blitz
For the
past four years each county in Munster
has sent 4 clubs to GAA head quarters to take part in an U12 Blitz on Wednesday
27th. All clubs have two teams of 10 with each playing two games Vs
clubs from other Munster counties on the
hallowed turf of Croke
Park. Also included is
Stadium and museum tour for mentors and players. This has proved a great
success and over the four years every club in county Clare
through either hurling or football has been selected.
This year
Kilmurry Ib, Ennistymon and St Senans Kilkee were drawn from the hat
Munster Club Child
Development Programme
A Munster
Club Child Development Programme initiative is being launched across the
province with GDAs in each county delivering this programme to every club in
their area over the next four years. In Clare the Kilrush and Lisseycasey clubs
were selected to roll out this programme in year one, this programme will help
clubs understand the importance of U6 to U10 age group and to analysis its how
it can improve its coaching/mentor/recruitment structures to maximise its
potential in this area and will include a minimum of 4 visits to each club over
a 3 month period. Please check on link below to get a full understanding of
programme. Each club received their 1st visit from their GDA in
April.

Easter U11 and U12 Divisional Coaching and Blitzes
Each
October we hold 5 weeks coaching for full U10s in each of the 4 divisions in
West and North Clare and then come Easter with the schools on holidays we bring
these divisional players together for two days coaching/blitzes. This year
Miltown was the venue on the first two days of the holidays with 50 players
from a possible 80 invited taking part in blitzes against each other, skills
coaching and skill competitions.
The aim is
raise the profile of Gaelic Football by bringing players together in each
division to play against other divisions to make more competitive games that
all the players will enjoy taking part where skill development is our main
goal. Also as these players grow older they will easily fit into our schools
and divisional projects of funnelling all players into more competitive squads.
Also held
over the holidays each division including East and Urban held an U12 divisional
coaching/blitz day where the previous two years U10s are brought together.
Go Games Blitzes
April saw
the start of our county U8 and U10 Go Games blitzes throughout the county for
all clubs with two blitz weekends for each grade and 6 blitzes at each grade
with the emphasis on participation for players, playing different positions and
creating an environment of awarding skills points to encourage
player/mentors/parent focus being able to perform the skills of Gaelic
Football.
May 2011
Munster Club Child
Development Programme
In May our
two clubs selected for the Munster Club Child Development Project received
their 2nd club visit from the divisional GDA. This visit included a
practical session with Club U10s for all club coaches and parents and amongst
other useful topics also spoke about the need for club child development
committee to be put in place.
St Flannan’s Enternal 1st Year Blitz - O Doherty Cup
For the
past 3 years the teachers of St Flannan’s responsible for promoting football
have been hosting an invitational 1st year blitz involving some of the best
colleges from Munster, Connacht and Leinester. This a highly competitive blitz
before the summer holidays and gives both players/teachers an opportunity to
put into practise the years coaching and see what kind of team the school will
have for U15A Corn Ui Mhorain. The schools this year were St Colmans
Claremorris Mayo, Marist Colleges Athlone, St Jarlaths Galway, West Clare
Colleges and the host
school St Flannans.
The blitz
was run a round robin basis with the top two schools meeting again in the final
later in the day. The West Clare Colleges built on the good coaching and work
done through the year with the Munster council 1st year project and
reached the final where they were beaten by Connacht league and championship
winners St Jarlaths
Great
credit is due to the teachers of St Flannans and in particular to John Connole
, Darragh Kelly and Gary Brennan for organising and hosting this competition
and also to Bord Na nOg Peil for
sponsoring the winning medals.

Ennistymon CBS
1st Year Blitz
On the 17th
May the annual county 1st year football blitz run by CBS teacher
Michael Clohessy was held at various local GAA grounds. This blitz is open to
all schools and showcases the best footballers around the county to opportunity
to go head to head in 11 a side 10 minute a half games. The games were held at
Inagh, Ennistymon, Lahinch and CBS pitches with 12 schools taking part with the
top two schools from each venue advancing to the qtr finals. This year saw CBS
and Kilmihil who defeated Kilrush in a cracking game with a last minute goal
compete in the final played at Lahinch. The first was very competitive with the
Kilmihil side leading by 1pt 2-3 to 2-2, however in the 2nd half the
west Clare side proved their quality to win the competition for the 1st
time in 8 years with a score line 2-11
to 2-5. There is great credit due Michael Clohessy and Clare colleges servicing
officer John Fawl for organising this competition.
Munster A Colleges Competitions Entry for West and North Clare
Colleges
Despite all
the hard work, training and passion trying to bridge the gap between Cork and Kerry at minor
and U21 level with 5 months preparation is an impossible task. Last year for
the first in their history West Clare Colleges
after 12 months of work were accepted into the Corn Ui Mhuiri and Corn Ui
Mhorain competitions for 2010 and these are the Munster
A college competitions were they were tested against some of the best players
in Cork and
Kerry.
However
this only catered for half of the players and schools in the traditional
football region of the county and so obviously this was not the ideal
situation. This year with the backing of the Principals and teachers of the 8
schools in West/North Clare entry was sought and approved by the Munster Colleges from both West and North
colleges for next years competitions.

Development Squads
With the
club U16 championship complete and the Munster Development Squad competitions
at U14, U15 and U16 scheduled for 26th July in Waterford,
Cork and Limerick
respectively we commenced out squad preparations on 21st May with
games between players from the extended regional panels at U15 and U16. This
gave us 4 squads of 20 plus players and was also used to raise the profile of
both football and player as it allowed players to see the depth and quality of
player that will be competing for county minor panel in 2013 while also giving
some players another opportunity to make the development squads.
